Galleries of Justice

Nottingham’s Galleries of Justice date back to 600AD, a period now known as The Dark Ages. Within these walls lie shocking and grim stories of England’s Crime and Punishment practice, so grim that in 1878 the prison area was closed due to its appalling conditions. The courts were used until 1985 and a police station was also built during this time, but in 1986 the building closed. It wasn’t until 1995 that the building opened its door again, this time as a Museum. Today you can discover Nottingham’s most gruesome stories with actors, audio guides, lighting, sounds and exhibitions to help you along the way.
