Best known as the backdrop for the story of Robin Hood, the 1000-acre Sherwood Forest National Nature Reserve attracts visitors from all around the world. The forest is located on the outskirts of Edwinstowe near Mansfield, and contains some of Europe’s oldest trees and the world-famous Major Oak, estimated to be 800 years old and legend has it, Robin Hood’s principal hideout. Take a walk through the park, discovering a rich and varied ecosystem and fascinating wildlife, or attend one of the many events hosted all year round, including the annual Robin Hood Festival. Within the Nature Reserve is the country park, where you can learn more in the Visitor Centre and enjoy a hot chocolate in the Forest Table restaurant.
