The Guildhall
Nottingham Guildhall opened in 1888 and was designed by Thomas Verity and George Henry Hunt after they won a competition judged by Alfred Waterhouse. Previously a Magistrates’ Court, the Guildhall courts are great examples of Victorian design. Their imposing nature and beautiful woodwork complement the French Renaissance architecture of the building perfectly. Today, the courts remain unused but do stage mock trials for law students and are also hired out by television and film crews. The buildings foyer and old prisoner cells are also something to be explored if you can secure a tour.
